
Time in the oral history booth is available in minimum two-hour sessions during Portland Museum’s weekly days of operation.
- Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from: 11AM to 1PM, 1PM to 3PM, and 3PM to 5PM
- Saturdays from: 10AM to 12PM, 12PM to 2PM, and 2PM to 4PM
In consideration of these limited hours, please reserve a maximum of four hours/two slots per week. If you need more time than this for your project, please contact us.
Equipment
Utilize the Ed “Nardie” White Oral History Booth for your recording needs! Equipment available for use:
- Four PreSonus M7 Cardioid Condenser Microphones (with stands and pop filters)
- One pair of PreSonus HD7 Professional Monitoring Headphones
- RØDECaster Pro mixer (with AUX chord and Apple lightning adapter for phone interviews)
- iPad (with multiple recording apps)
- Apple Pencil Pro (available upon request)
- USB adapter and drives (for moving files between iPad and your personal device)
- Binder containing interview tips, equipment tutorials, and other best practices
These items are enough to record most things, but if you have more complex needs the equipment is compatible with:
- Personal laptops with audio recording software (Adobe Audition, Audacity, etc.)
- Personal smartphones/tablets with audio recording apps (Apple Voice Memos, Podbean, Anchor, etc.)
- Up to four pairs of additional headphones with 6.35MM jacks
- Up to four alternative microphones with XLR jacks
- MicroSD cards (to record stereo tracks directly from the RØDECaster)
Upon your arrival, please check in with William at the Portland Museum front desk who will have you sign a form ensuring safe usage of the equipment, then enjoy! If you’d like to have your form signed and ready before your visit, it is linked below:
