Open now through August 29th

In the world of printmakers exists the print exchange, a sort of quilting circle on paper. A group of artists gather and agree to each produce an original print, but this is no white elephant. Printmaking’s reproducibility means each participant can receive a copy of every print created for the exchange. One design in exchange for a whole folio’s worth; it’s a great way to fill the walls of your apartment with the work of friends if nothing else!

We at Portland Museum, as part of our annual CeLOUbrate Print programming, wanted to share the magic of the print exchange with our visitors, and thus, commissioned one ourselves. We gathered a stellar group of seventeen printers who’ve each made an impact on CeLOUbrate Print over the years, and our run of exchange prints are now on display for all our visitors to see!
The content of the prints are all themed around “adventure and discovery,” two of the core tenets of our currently-under-construction-and-coming-soon AHOY Children’s Museum. Come and see for yourself the wide range of printmaking mediums and techniques our cadre of artists have used to express what that theme means to them, and get excited for AHOY!
